Can I afford insurance? I can't afford no insurance.

I am disabled, confined to a wheelchair due to arthritis of the knees and spine, degenerative disk disease, and other spinal issues. During the non-recession of the last 7 years, my husband and I lost our highly skilled jobs in computers. We had to go on TANF while he retrained as a welder, a far lower-paying job.

Now that he is working, the Medicaid we were eligible for is ending, and since he works in a trade, insurance is often not available or not immediately available. I will not qualify for Medicare until November of 2008; I was just found disabled dating from April 2006 (a negotiated date that I dared not disagree with or risk denial of my appeal) so have seen no disability funds at this time. I had breast cancer in April of 2007. My medications for my various issues are nearly $700 a month.

Fortunately, I guess, Colorado is one of the states with a high risk pool. I will be applying soon, and I believe they will have to insure me, but the cost will be high, the co-pays hard to afford, and like on Medicaid, the choice of providers extremely limited. Quite simply, until I am allowed Medicare, it may be too expensive for me to survive. I have a 13 year old child that needs her mother. I need Cheneycare.
