Paying For Air

When I lived in NY, I was paying more than $600 a month for a PPO, witha co-pay of $20. Expensive, I thought, since I almost never made a claim. Now I live in NH, and all I have for an option is a $400+ a month premium with no such thing as co-pay and a deductaible of $3000!

Again, I am healthy and lucky, so I almost never make a claim. One mammogram. Big deal. I give my stupid insurance company over $5000 a year and all I get in return is air. Can't go for a simple test, like an MRI on my cruddy knee, because it would all be out of pocket. No formal employer, so no health insurance, except the crap that Patriot decides to give me.

And if I ever (God forbid) do have to make a claim for something really big, will they pay for it? Not all of it, you can bet. On a freelance writer's income, I'd be homeless in no time. So how come Dick Cheney is better than I am? A better human being? By the way, I write for kids.
