Scared as Hell
On March 25, 2008, I went to the emergency room in my town I had severe pain in the left side of my neck. I was there all day long they did CT scans with and with out dye, they did ultrasounds, x-rays, put a tub down my nose to see down my throat. at the end of the day they sent me home saying that I had an infection, and gave me an antibiotics.
At this time I had health insurance. On July 1,2008, I ended back in that same emergency room with severe pain in my right groin so bad that I could hardly walk. They took CT scans again with and without dye. That is the day that I found out I had CANCER, and when the doctor told me he goes well you are going to be admitted into the hospital because you have Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma he was like it was an every day thing that people came in the hospital with.
However, on this same day I found out that my health insurance had expired the day before, I was never notified by my health carrier that I needed to re-do my insurance. So I was put in the hospital. I was there for two weeks, and while I was in there they were going to do a biopsy but it was either cancelled or I was going with out food or water from any where from a day to a day and a half.
I have been denied treatment because of not having insurance -- I have been told from the doctors, nurses, and secretaries that until I have insurance I will not get the test that I need. During this time I have gotten all my reports from day one which was March 25,2008 -- on that report of the CT scan it stated that I had Lymphoma, I had insurance, and yet they sent me home and never even told me that I had it. Not only did they play with my life by not telling me they sent me home and never said any thing to me.
Now I want to change the laws. I don't think that the doctors, nurses, and secretaries have the right to tell some one that they are not going to be treated because they have no insurance. I believe that every one should be held responsible for what happens to the people that they are supposed to take care of. Not only did they refuse to treat me when I went to the local MEDCAID office, they told me that I cannot get emergency MEDICAID because cancer is not an emergency.
I have been fighting for insurance since July 1, 2008 so that I can get treatment. I just want people held responsible for their actions. These people took an oath that they were to help people and that they no matter what help the sick. What has become of our country that they will not help the people in our country? However, they will bring people in from other countries and help them get great medical care which I believe is great because everyone deserves the best care but let's start at home first and start taking care of the people that are sick here.
