Son Can't Get Speech Therapy for Stuttering

In the fall of 2007, my 4-year-old son's pediatrician referred him to a speech therapist for stuttering and speech delays. I was shocked to discover that my heath insurance through Blue Cross will not pay for this. In fact, the plan specifically excludes speech therapy for anyone other that Parkinson's patients.

How crazy is that? They would rather my son have difficulty speaking for the rest of his life than pay any money at all. While I am sure that Parkinson's patients have a legitimate need for this service, it doesn't get any more basic than speech therapy for a speech impediment!
